How to Use Decorative Pillows

Living Swell’s assortment of new designer pillows have arrived in store.

Changing pillows with the season is the perfect way to keep your space fresh throughout the year. Even if your overall color themes don’t vary too much, a bit of layering and texture can bring a warmer, cozier feel for the cooler months ahead. It is hard to believe that the holiday season is almost upon us. We will undoubtedly have more time at home this year. Why not make the most of it and enjoy the less hectic pace? Sitting by the fireplace, cooking delicious meals with our loved ones, and lots of quality time in our own home sweet homes. Giving some thought to making your home more inviting and comfortable will be worth the effort.

Living Swell’s assortment of new designer pillows has arrived in store. The nautical theme that runs through our curated collections in-store continues here. Lots of navy and white, plus stripes and geometric prints, contrasted with corals and smaller repeating patterns, they are really a stunning assortment. The dressmaker details do not go unnoticed, pom poms, tassels, and mitered edges make these pillows really special.

If you are unsure of how to arrange your sofa pillows, there are some popular basics. Depending upon the size of the sofa you can start with two matching large (20″ or 22″) on either edge and then layer in front with smaller sizes. An uneven number can look balanced, with the smallest or a medium-sized “star” pillow in the center. There really is no right or wrong way to arrange them. It can be fun to play around and get a combination that suits you. And don’t forget your chairs. A smaller pillow, maybe a lumbar sized can make your chairs more comfy and continue your theme through the space.

Your bed pillow arrangement can elevate the focal point of the room and look really polished. For a queen-sized bed with a headboard start with two European shams standing in the back, stack 4 bed (sleeping) pillows next. Then in front, you could have a rolled pillow, a round accent pillow, or any combination of smaller pillows that you like. Maybe something fuzzy, textured, or embellished that brings it all together.

Here at Living Swell we’d love to see what your space looks like, what design challenges you may have, or what you’ve done that you absolutely love. Come in, be inspired. It is so nice the see the fabrics, colors, and patterns in person. Bring us pictures of your space, if we can help you get the look you want.

Whatever the rest of the year has in store for us, we wish you health and happiness, stay swell!
